Scott "Douglas" MacIntyre
You and I were both interested to know more about this 28 years old visually-impaired Scott MacIntyre from Scottdale since he showed up and even auditioned on the first night of the eighth season of American Idol. Perhaps, he must have been one of the main reasons why we, the viewers, will wait for the next coming episodes of the said interactive reality singing competition show.
It simply amazed the people on how they can manage to play instruments even if they were visually-impaired. Scott said, “If you believe you’ll fail, you’ll fail.” He added, “People with disabilities can accomplish things like this – if you set your mind to it.”
Scott MacIntyre began playing piano by ear at age 3, though he has been visually impaired since birth. Classically trained, he has been internationally profiled on CNN, Headline News, Sky News Europe, Global Television Network, USA Today, and national and local news, radio, and print media as pianist, vocalist, and songwriter. He has independently produced, engineered, and released 6 full-length CD's and has written in genres spanning pop, rock, punk, jazz, and classical.
He has received top prizes and awards for piano, composition, and vocal performance. Recent highlights include winner of the VSA Arts 2008 International Young Soloists Award; First Place in the Herberger Theater Center Young Artist Competition for outstanding vocal performance; First Place in the Fiesta Chorus of Sweet Adeline Talent Search; First Place in the Butterfield Young Artist Concerto Competition (ten western U.S. states); Grand Prize Winner Phoenix Symphony Guild, First Place Senior Piano Concerto competition; and second place in the national finals of the Canadian Music Competitions.
